Fleeced
I love my sheepies..I feel for them when it's time for a haircut though..it is stressful and unless they are fasted for a day it can be painful and actually cause heart attacks..so if i was to get more sheep i would seriously be looking at breeds that shed their fleece on their own.. they may look like they have mange or are channelling their inner Rastafarian but it has to be the way to go for the modern sheep :)

Oh, we didn't know that about sheep. Makes us glad we shed and don't need to be shorn.
ReplyDeleteI agree..it is quite sad for them..but a fast the day before makes it less uncomfortable..it's all to do with their four tummies..imagine having four tummies then someone bending you over and giving you a shave...poor babies ..I am glad the hairdresser doesn't have to bend me round too!!
DeleteWe thought they came out with some drug they could give sheep that makes them shed...but what do we know, we're scotties.
ReplyDeleteXXXOOO Daisy, Bella & Roxy
Bwahahaah no but i am sure if they did have a drug like that there might be a few women out there keen to slip some in a bad boyfriends drink hahahahaha :)

ReplyDeletepoor sheep! How does fasting them help?
ReplyDeleteI know :( we Andrea what happens is because they have four stomachs when they have chaff etc and water it bloats out..so as they are being bent over to be shorn this causes huge pressure..imagine if after eating a huge meal someone sat on your stomach and kept bouncing up and down...so when they have no feed for 24 hours there is less bloating in their stomachs..just water ..you know no swollen up chaff or hay etc..so when the shearer bends them almost in half to shear them it;s nowhere near as tight and painful..less stress for the sheep, less struggling and means the job also gets done quicker! anything to make it kinder for them...our black sheepies are our friends and love to have interaction with us..sheep kisses and rubs but no sheep really likes being bent and cuddled etc :)
DeleteMost interestin' ,we did not know dis could happen to sheeps when dey gets dere hair cut. Thanks so much fur stoppin' by our bloggie, we luvs to make new furiends. :)

DeleteI hadn't heard of sheep that shed their fleece before, but it sounds like a good idea and kinder than having to shear them. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI agree Julie :) if you saw the videos on our other bloggie you would see that our boys are really not keen on the shearer..even though he is a gentle one :) hugs Fozziemum
